Almost Thanksgiving and We Need It

Time has flown again.  I'm guessing it's either old age or too much fun.  I prefer blaming it on having too much fun.  We've been on an anniversary trip to San Francisco in June and a birthday trip to Florida in October.  So, that sounds like too much fun to me.

Anyway, we decided that we needed to treat ourselves to a repeat of our San Francisco honeymoon.  We returned to the scene of the crime, so to speak, just to see what had changed since 1970.  You might say 'A LOT CHANGED' but you'd only be partially correct.  While there were changes obviously, there were so many things that remained the same and that we could visit and remember when.  We rode the cable cars, of course, and visited Coit Tower and Sausalito and The Fisherman's Wharf.  We stayed in The Argonaut Hotel which is right on the corner of The Cannery and the cable car turnaround at Fisherman's Wharf.  It was great fun.  We prided ourselves on remembering places, and wandered all around Coit Tower looking for the same background of the city that we had taken in 1970.  We were sure 'this was the place.'  Well, the city was still there but the shrubbery was now 40 feet tall and blocked the view.  You could see the same view but it was now only visible through the shrubbery.  

Ghirardelli Square was still there but it didn't have the same thrill that it had the first time we visited.  We did buy a special Yaps Wrap for Shaunti.  She got the souvenir this time.






We spent a nice week reminiscing and then we came home.  Our fur kid was happy to see us.  We spent the rest of the summer around home, and Murray painted the house.  Yes!  The Whole House!  Not a small chore let me tell you.

To reward ourselves for Murray's effort, we decided we'd spend his birthday in Florida.  He insisted that he drive so I crocheted.  Not a bad deal for me.  Except for lots of rain on the way south, it was a fun time.  This was the rainstorm that flooded Charleston, SC.  Fortunately, we were a few days ahead of the storm so avoided any big problems.  We enjoyed some sunshine and had a great meal in St. Augustine's, Florida, enroute to the Tampa area where we spent a week at Caliente Resort.  It is a beautiful place.

Now we are home getting ready for fall and winter.  We have no travel plans but are open to new adventures in case one or two may arise.

Old Enough For Now

Yes, May is a beautiful month.  The flowers are blooming and everything is bursting forth.  The plantings in the backyard are growing so fast you can almost see them reach for the sun.  And, of course, it is my birthday month.  I may be old but I still love birthdays.  When asked by my husband, 'What do you want for your birthday since you've got everything you could possibly want except more yarn?'  I responded, 'I want a Mac laptop.'   He was speechless for a few seconds and then said, '.... you'll have to decide which model.'  Needless to say, I got right on that assignment and came up with the MacBook Air.  After visiting the Apple website and comparing models, I changed my mind and decided on the MacBook Pro 13 inch with Retina Display.  The Air was too similar to the iPad and what I wanted was a light weight laptop to replace our ancient door stop model.  The MacBook arrived and I managed to wait until THE day to take it out of the box.  It is beautiful.  The display is brilliant and the design is superb.  Apple does know how to design.  I'm now a Mac believer but still love my PC.  I had to let Jamie, of Outlander book fame check it out with me.  He approves even though he has no idea, being an 18th Century Scot, how it's used.  So, if you haven't tried a Mac, I recommend you do.  And, if you haven't read the Outlander series and discovered Jamie, I recommend that you do that, too.  The eighth book will be published June 10th.  For now, I'm off to listen for the 8th or 9th time to the seventh book in the Outlander series and crochet.  All is well!

June 1951 Was Special

Well, we established that May is the lusty month and was my birthday month many, many years ago.  June 1951 was just as special.  It was the month in which my 'baby brother' was born.  Now, of course, he is no longer a baby brother and isn't really my little brother either since he is taller than me and outweighs me by a few pounds.  But, as we all know, birth order remains the same and to me he will always be my 'little brother.'   He thinks he is lucky to have survived his childhood but we all know those wild adventures magnify and grow in the mind's eye, especially in the eye of the child.  He is thriving now with a family of his own.  Here he is at less than a year.  The kid holding him....well, that would be me. We've both improved in appearance since then.

It's May, It's May, The Lusty Month of May

Well, it took me almost the entire month to get around to updating my blog.  The title of today's entry is from 'Camelot' a favorite movie of mine.  It represents many memorable moments:  1-1st movie my now husband and I ever attended; 2-we named our first cat C'est Moi after Lancelot's famous self-aggrandizement song; 3-May is my birth month so I like to think that this song describes my fun loving tendencies.  You can hear the lyrics at Lusty Month of May as sung by Vanessa Redgrave in the 1967 movies.  You may wonder why I'm so infatuated with that song.  It's because I just celebrated my 70th birthday so feeling fun loving is important since I expect many of you who are much younger expect anyone of my advanced age to be quietly rocking on my porch.  Not!!  First of all I don't have a porch but even if I did I wouldn't be in a rocking chair.  Suffice it to say that 70 is just a number.  As long as we stay up with current events, read the latest books, pay attention to the latest movies (even if we don't run to the theater every weekend), and enjoy life, we'll stay relevant.  Note my green toes.....this is me trying to be relevant.  I think I prefer a brighter turquoise next time.  Anyway, you get my intent.  So, watch the video and enjoy the lovely spring.  Now, I must get back to my crocheting and my hot, hot book!  Can you guess what I'm reading?
