Gray and Cloudy Day

Today is gray, cloudy and rainy.  It matches my mood.  I'm sure I'll bounce back.  Today, though, I don't feel as cheerful as I might like.  I've been occupying my day with picture taking of my recent six hats and scarves for donating to an abused women's shelter.  Unfortunately, there is always a need for handmade items.

 I like crocheting so I'll always have a hobby.  I did get some bright pink yarn and make some hats for friends to wear when they join the 'Women's March on D.C.' tomorrow to highlight the need for diversity and women's equality.  I'm modeling the hat before I shipped it off.  It's all for a good cause.

I'm about to go walk and watch the 11th season of a great BBC series, 'New Tricks' which is about a group of retired London detectives brought in to solve cold cases.  Their boss is a Superintendent Detective who just happens to be female and 40 years their junior.  It is hilarious but also touching.  The fact that it lasted 12 seasons tells you the writing and acting is superb.  It's available on Netflix.  I first saw it on PBS years ago.  It is just one of those shows that makes you feel good.  Today is a good day to watch it.

Baby Booties and Hats -- So Cute!

Spring is here and it is lovely outside.  The trees are leafing out and everything is just .... well, pretty.  My Daphne bloomed with snow on it but it is now putting out new leaves.  The Camellias still haven't bloomed although my neighbor's  is loaded with blooms.  I'm hoping that mine are still developing since they are only about 2 feet tall while her plant is almost 6 feet tall.  At least mine are green so they look healthy.  And, of course, I had to buy some yarn to make a baby blanket and matching hats and booties.  Had to share since they turned out so cute.  Nothing is cuter than booties unless they are on the baby's feet, of course (smiling).  Nothing else noteworthy is going on here so I've not posted.  I'll try to do better and at least check in monthly if not more often.  Maybe something will happen worth talking about.  In the meantime, check these out:

Another Spring Like Day in November

Hard to believe that today is November 14th.  It is 70 degrees and sunny.  The leaves crunch under foot and it just doesn't feel like mid November.  Enjoy it while it's here...it could  snow a foot tomorrow.  Yes, it's been that kind of weather, changeable.  But, I have been steady in my crocheting and in knitting on my cousin's shrug.  I have completed a 2nd skein of yarn and another 4 inches of shrug....only 30 inches to go now.  I'll get it done soon.  I can only knit for so long before I wear out so in between time I made this lovely hat for the HAP group.  Check out their activities at their site.  Soon I'll have a cowl to go with the hat.  Both were made from Lion Brand yarns.  The orange is Jiffy's Rust and the other is Tweed's Woodlands.  The V-Stitch Beret and Cowl pattern was designed by Mara Callahan.  So, gotta go finish the cowl.  The model is unnamed at this time but she is happy to just be sitting wherever I place her.  Life is Good!!!

HATS IN A BAG--THE END

OK-OK! I promise this is the end of the hat saga but I just had to put them all in a bag to carry didn't I. It just happens to be the bag my new boots were carried in and that is perfect. Hats and Boots! Get it??? Of course you do. Anyway, I made a total of 16 hats, 2 scarves, and 1 shawl and used up lots of my stash yarn. I'm so happy. Now I'm on to other challenges like two shawls which are partly finished and then I'm tackling another sweater but this one has the sleeves crocheted as part of the back and front so no inset sleeves. Yea!!! If I could crochet boots I would but I'd much rather get leather boots to go with my outfits. This is definitely the year for boots. So let's hear it ya'll, 'These boots are made for walkin' and that's what they're gonna do...one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you....' Can you hear it yet? Nancy Sinatra, circa 1970s. Anyway, I can hear it.

MORE HATS!

Well, two more hats for the cause.  These are of camouflage yarn so may be more appropriate for a child but the one with the green band is quite large and would fit a big head.  Anyway, it is fun to make them and to know that they are going to a good cause.  It is a great way to use up stash and so far I have used almost 5 skeins.  Lots more yarn.

Hats & Scarves for Little Ones

Well, I finished my little project and the items are ready to be sent to the little ones. They love red so this will match their coats as well as their blankies. Fun to make cause they go so fast. Now I'm finishing my charm school shrug and ready to begin the elegant winter sweater using my cotton yarn. Not sure whether it will be a robe or what. Just that it will be kiwi in color. Fall is here and so I am enthusiastic to get started on some new projects. Have to finish my books first so it may be a while. But, I am busier than ever and none of it has anything whatsoever to do with work! Isn't that great. Enjoy your fall and start a new project no matter what it may be.
