Cherry Blossoms at Tidal Basin

Well, we finally made another visit to the beautiful cherry blossoms.  Yesterday was March 23rd, 2012.  Our first visit was April 6, 1974, when we moved from Oregon to Washington, D.C.  What a lot has happened since then and what a lot has stayed the same.  We are still healthy and happy if 38 years older but we are alive and kicking.  In 1974 it was a cool spring day while yesterday it was 82 degrees and felt more like June than March.  The blossoms endure and bloom when they are ready whether it is the Cherry Blossom Festival date or not--the opening ceremony is March 25th but because of the very warm weather the peak for the bloom was last week.  Today it is raining and overcast and not a good day for pictures and the blossoms are probably all falling to the ground with the rain drops.  But, next year they will bloom again and on the new trees that were planted this year in honor of the 100th anniversary of the gift from Japan to the United States.  So, here are a couple of pictures of our day.
