NEW YEAR HAPPENINGS

Happy New Year! I was complaining in my last post of the crummy weather. Well, today and yesterday have been 70+ degrees so can't complain about that. New Year's Eve was lovely as well. The fireworks over Baltimore's Inner Harbor were fantastic. They had 3 barges in the harbor and the fireworks lasted well over 30 minutes. It was beautiful. As for me, I watched the fireworks, sipped a glass of bubbly and then went to bed. New Year's Day was nice but it was football and crochet. Ah yes, the reason for this blog is to talk about crochet so here is my latest project, a shawl. It turned out to be very nice and warm--at least when I've tried it on to see how long it was getting, I found it too warm for me but I'm sure the intended wearer will love it. You can see the hood in the middle of the photo and ruffles around the entire edge. It is made out of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Chunky in Amber. It took 13 skeins so you know it is dense and warm. I am now starting a poncho and we'll see how it goes. It is medium weight worsted so much easier to work with. A friend and I have taken on a new assignment to duplicate a christening gown, hat, booties, and afghan so that twins will be dressed alike. It looks like a simple stitch but we'll figure it out. We have until May to get them done. Retirement is good! Remember to stay cool and avoid knotting your yarn.

Beautiful shawl. It looks like "Little Amber Riding Hood." I certainly don't have the patience to endure something like this.
